Frequently asked questions
How was car finance mis-sold?
Brokers and dealers often failed to disclose that they were earning commission from lenders. This happened in three main ways: a discretionary commission arrangement (where the dealer set a higher interest rate to increase their commission), half-secret commission (mentioned in paperwork but the amount wasn’t disclosed), and fully secret commission (not mentioned at all). Any of these could mean you’re owed compensation.
How do I know if I can make a claim?
Once you sign up, we run a soft credit check*** to find any car finance agreements you’ve held — this has no impact on your credit score. If we find agreements, we check with your lender(s) for any unfair or undisclosed commission, and let you know if you could be owed compensation.
How much could I be owed?
The amount of compensation you may be entitled to is dependent on several factors, including the amount of finance your lender provided, the date the finance was taken out, the duration of the agreement, the interest rate you paid and the nature and value of the commission payment your lender made to the car dealership.
The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) estimates that most consumers will receive around £829* per eligible agreement.
Please note: all potential claim values used in our advertising, or on our websites, are provided prior to deduction of our fee.
Which lenders can I claim against?
We can handle PCP and HP claims against most major lenders — including Black Horse, BMW, Close Brothers, Mercedes, MotoNovo, Santander Consumer Finance, Volkswagen Financial Services, Barclays Partner Finance, Ford Credit and many more. If your lender isn’t listed, start a check and we’ll confirm.
How long do claims take?
Timeframes depend on the FCA’s redress scheme and how quickly lenders respond, both of which are still developing. It isn’t a quick process, but there’s nothing you need to do once you’ve signed up — we’ll keep you updated at every stage.
Is there any cost to me?
We work on a no-win, no-fee basis** — you only pay a fee if your claim is won. We charge a fee between 18-36% (including VAT) for a successful claim. You don’t have to use a claims company at all: you can claim for free directly with your lender, or the Financial Ombudsman Service.

About your choices
- You don’t have to use us. You can claim for free by going directly to your lender, and if you’re unhappy with the outcome you can refer your complaint to the Financial Ombudsman Service.
- No win, no fee.** You pay nothing unless your claim succeeds. A fee between 18-36% (including VAT) applies on successful claims. If you cancel outside the cooling off period, cancellation charges may apply at a rate of £80+VAT, per hour.
- Scheme timing. The FCA redress scheme is currently subject to a legal challenge, which will delay the process and the timing of any compensation — see FCA updates.
- No guarantee. There’s no guarantee we’ll recover more than you might achieve pursuing the claim yourself.
Regulation
FCA updates
The FCA has announced an industry-wide redress scheme covering eligible motor finance agreements. That scheme is currently facing a legal challenge, and the FCA has confirmed this will push back the payment of compensation.
Until the challenge is resolved, the start of the redress process — and the timing of any payouts — can’t be predicted with certainty. We’re monitoring every FCA announcement and will keep our customers informed as the position develops.
